How much does UHIP cost?
Your premium depends on the number of people the member is enrolling and the duration of coverage needed. Refer to the premium table to determine your premium.
The premium table is reviewed annually and is subject to change. Rates changes are reflected on the website by May 1st. Students must pay the annual premium (12 months) if you are enrolled in a credit-degree program.
The premium may increase or decrease from year-to-year depending on:
- the cost of claims UHIP pays each year
- changes in the cost of health services and medical treatments
- the effect of inflation
Late Enrollment
If you are a student and enrol late, you must pay premium retroactive to the first of the month in which your university term begins. If you are an employee and enrol late, you must pay premium retroactive to your employment start date. If you enrol your family members more than 30 days after they arrive in Canada, you must pay a late application fee of $500, PLUS premium retroactive to:
- Students - the first of the month in which your university term begins
- Employees - your employment start date
